In Context: A Nonesuch Celebration

A stellar lineup of musical luminaries comes together for one night only to pay tribute to Bob Hurwitz, who for the past three decades has served as the visionary architect of Nonesuch Records, affectionately known as “the label without labels.” Context is everything, so get closer to the production through our series of curated links, videos, and articles. After you've attended the show, let us know what you thought by posting in the comments below and on social media using #NonesuchBAM.

Program Notes

Article
A Galaxy of Stars (BAM blog)
For 32 years, Hurwitz not only served as president of Nonesuch Records, but also reinvented it from the ground up.

Article
The Industry Standard (The New York Times)
“...it would be an exaggeration, but not too great a one, to say that Nonesuch is Hurwitz.” A meaty feature on Nonesuch, Hurwitz, and the ever-shrinking distance between Carnegie Hall and Irving Plaza.

Opinion
A Raspberry for BlackBerrys (The New York Times)
The tech has changed, but the distraction remains the same. Bob Hurwitz would rather you not check your email during the performance.

Article
Nonesuch President to Step Down After 32 Years (The New York Times)
Hurwitz is no ordinary label head, and his departure is no ordinary departure.

  3. I felt fortunate to be in attendance during such a special, intimate evening. k.d. lang, Natalie Merchant, Kronos Quartet and Chris Thile were especially spectacular. Nights like these are why I love BAM so much.
